Welcome descendants of Ranald MacIsaac MacDonald b.1754 in Invernesshire, Fort Augustus, Scotland and Janet Cameron b. 1783 in Lochiel, Scotland. Ranald and Janet married in Scotland in 1797. Of their eight children, seven migrated to Glengarry, Ontario, the eldest chose Australia.

Ranald and Janet settled on Lot 25, 4th conc. Kenyon, Glengarry, Ontario.

St. Raphael's Ruins

In 1970 a fire consumed the church of St. Raphael's, one of the earliest Roman Catholic churches in English-speaking Canada. Fortunately the outer walls were spared and today its impressive scale and fine masonry work continue to attract the tourists to the site. The Ruins were declared a National Historic Site in 1999. Exploring St. Raphaels...

We took a quick stop into St. Raphaels last summer, on our way to Montreal.

There are quite a few MacDonalds buried at St. Raphael's.

All though much of the cemetary has been destroyed, there was a guide-book available.

Unfortunately we didn't have Names and Dates with us, so much of it was guess-work.

All in all, it was an interesting visit. We'll have to go back someday with a Family Tree listing.
